Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
I am writing this just two days before my last Sunday in Bethany’s pulpit which was January 22. First, I would like to thank you for the gracious retirement recognition you gave me January 15. The potluck was tasty, the cake lovely, the compliments and your generous parting gift appreciated greatly.
Brenda and I have truly enjoyed living among you and serving Jesus Christ with you in the ministry of Bethany Presbyterian Church. The scenery here in Northeastern Pennsylvania is breath-taking. We’ve truly enjoyed living in the mountain. Never be-fore have we lived where deer wandered through our yard.
Yes, there have been some challenges, but I have learned from them. Yes, I am at a different point of the theological spectrum than many in our church, but this has re-inforced my understanding that we are one in Jesus Christ. I believe this is of the ut-most importance for us to remember in today’s often divisive climate in which we live.
In the end, it’s all grace.
Although I’m transitioning into retirement, I’m not quitting preaching. Brenda and I shall remember you fondly and hold you in prayer as you search for the person God is calling to serve as your next Pastor.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
